We made some changes this weekend due to the homegoing services of Sisters Mabel Hutchinson Conda and Carol Elizabeth Davis. Since both services were yesterday (Saturday) we cancelled our 8 a.m. services for this Sunday and had an abbreviated worship at 11 a.m.
By abbreviated it meant that we had an opening invocation, praise and worship, welcome to our guests, pastoral observations, offering, solo by Sis. Angela Washington, and then the sermon.
This week, I am very sensitive to what my church has been through in the last week. So today I preached a message of encouragement, “I’m Planted” in David’s Psalm 1. In this sermon I focused on my own failure in agriculture – I don’t have a green thumb, I have the thumb of death. I then dealt with the text: First, we are planted on purpose – by that which can nourish you (the Word of God); then we are planted for prosperity – to have resources available in our season; and lastly we are planted and it’s permanent. Believe it or not, we announced benediction at 12:15ish. Hmmmm….
This is the audio of the sermon below:
Thank you, Pastor Houston. you’ve been a blessing to many pastor and churches.
