I Remember Part 1 (Some of the Pastors who were instrumental to my ministry that are now with the Lord)
DALLAS, TX – One of the legendary leaders of Bishop College has gone home to be with the Lord. Dr. Richard A. Rollins, who was a professor and Dean went home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2013.
After closure of Bishop College, Dr. Rollins served in various capacities at the Headquarters office of the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. under Presidents E. Edward Jones, II and Stephen John Thurston.
On a personal note, I had a desire to attend the L.K. Williams Ministers’ Institute early in my ministry. (I had not heard of Bishop until several years after being called to preach because none of the pastors in the Northwest, until the arrival of Dr. T.L. Lewis, were alumni). However, after hearing about the Institute and with my pastor’s encouragement, I filled out my paperwork and planned to attend the Institute. To my surprise, I received a letter from Dean Rollins and I had been selected as a Facilitator for a class and the instructor was the legendary Dr. A. Louis Patterson of Houston, TX, who I was meeting for the very first time. Dr. Patterson and I have remained friends throughout the years. Years later, even though I was not a Bishop alumnus, Dr. Rollins would always speak and would check on me as our paths crossed in National Baptist Convention of America and later during events in Dallas. He was a tremendous man of God.
