Dr. Melvin Von Wade, Sr.

by Robert Earl Houston

Good morning everyone. I am unashamedly a manuscript preacher. When I started out preaching in 1978, my pastor, the late Dr. A. Bernard Devers, I, was a manuscript preacher but I was blown away by watching Dr. Melvin V. Wade, Sr., then pastor of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles, come to Portland and demonstrated the art of manuscripting a sermon. I was hooked.

Any of his books (especially the These Three series written with his dad and brother) should be on your shelf, but there is a new book that you need, “From Death to Deliverance” published by Shiloh Media Group. It is a fascinating read.

What I thought was most interesting is that most of the sermons contained in this book are from the Old Testament. Most preaching book are tomes dedicated to New Testament text, but Dr. Wade weaves through the text with simplicity and profundity operating simultaneously.

Check out these titles: “From Death to Deliverance,” “And It Began with an Unhappy Woman,” “The Gospel According to the Ants,” “Run, But You Sure Can’t Hide,” “The She-Devil,” “The Doctrine of a Thief,” “When God Was Taken Captive,” and “Fatal Rejection.”

You can get your copy directly from Dr. Wade by using cashapp. I recommend you order the book $DrMVWadeSr and make a $20.00 contribution, which will also include shipping and handling!

I am sure your walk with the Lord will be strengthened by it!
