RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pastor is accountable to the church congregation. The Pastor’s responsibilities include preaching, teaching, pastoral counseling, performing weddings, funerals, baptisms, planning and guiding the Church to grow and fulfill its purpose as set forth in Matthew 28:18-20.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Pastor shall have in his care the spiritual and moral welfare of the congregation. The Pastor shall preach the Gospel, support the doctrine of the Church, administer the ordinances and watch over the membership. The Pastor shall have charge of all services of public worship. He shall be an ex-officio member of all Boards and Committees of the Church, its auxiliaries and organizations. The Pastor shall preside at all meetings of the Church, except where good taste and his own involvement dictate otherwise.

The Pastor must possess an extensive and rigorous foundation in the Word of God. The Pastor must be dependable, demonstrate discretion and integrity in all activities and exhibit the character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:7-9. The Pastor shall be ordained.

Mount Gilead Baptist Church endeavors to be obedient to the Great Commission, to be involved in Evangelism through Missions and to minister to social needs through Christian worship and Bible study.

We are searching for a man who has a superb prayer life and desires to work with like-minded Christians to do whatever it takes to reach one more soul for Christ. This man should be well versed and support the Baptist Faith and Message. The Senior Pastor of Fairlawn Baptist Church should be a Christ-like man and able to lead a congregation through God’s word. As Senior Pastor, you would be responsible for preaching/teaching, leadership of the church, and developing meaningful relationships with church members and those in the community. We are looking for someone who will be devoted to prayer and make evangelism and discipleship a priority for our ministry.

Our church began as a bible study in 1969 and in 1970 began the tremendous journey going forward as Fairlawn Baptist Church. The Church has grown from those four bible study members to approximately 250 active members. Our Church focuses on small groups as this is where relationships can grow and develop. We are always looking for ways to reach out in the community and show the love of Christ to others.

Basic Overview:

Middle Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee is prayerfully seeking a full time pastor called by God and equipped to effectively preach and teach God’s Word. The Senior Pastor must be responsible for the biblical and spiritual obligations as outlined in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and must also be a man after God’s own heart (I Samuel 16:7). BASIC FUNCTION: The Senior Pastor is to be the spiritual leader of the church. The Senior Pastor has the primary responsibility for preaching and teaching the Word of God and leading in the observance of the church ordinances. The Senior Pastor will participate in the planning of worship services and events and equip staff and lay leaders to successfully coordinate those services and events. The position will oversee and lead outreach and pastoral care efforts, including biblical counseling, performing weddings and conducting funeral services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Pastor will be called to lead the church to understand, embrace, and accomplish its mission: “to make disciples”.
The responsibilities of the Senior Pastor may be outlined in terms of his primary biblical roles as follows:

  •   Elder/Overseer: the principal leader and vision caster of the church (cf. Acts 20:28; Philippians 1:1; I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; I Peter 5:1-4).
  •   Evangelist: models the practice of personal evangelism and ensures that the church is challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission (cf. II Timothy 4:5; Matthew 28:19).
  •   Shepherd: models the heart of the Chief Shepherd and ensures that the church is well led, cared for, and protected (cf. Acts 20:28; I Peter 5:1-4).
  •   Preacher/Teacher: the principal communicator of God’s Word in public worship and ensures that the Church is growing to maturity in Christ (cf. Acts 6:4; Ephesians 4:11; II Timothy 4:1-4; Titus 1:9).
  •   Equipper: partners with other leaders to empower and equip maturing members for significant service and ministry by discovering, developing, and deploying their spiritual gifts (cf. Ephesians 4:12; II Timothy 2:2).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The Senior Pastor will be one who is called of God and set apart to the gospel ministry, evangelical in theology, in accordance with the Baptist Faith and committed to living and serving in a manner consistent with the standards set forth in Scripture for such a leader. The Senior Pastor must be one who exemplifies a godly character, is compassionate in recognizing and meeting the needs of others, and demonstrates a high level of competence.
